Zen Shiatsu
Adriana Martins has been working with Shiatsu for the past ten years. In 2003, she graduated from the Academy of Oriental Medicine, in Austin, Texas, with a Major in Zen Shiatsu Asian Bodywork Therapy. Since beginning her practice, she has also been recognized as a professional member by American Organization for Bodywork Therapies of Asia – AOBTA.
In 1987*, Adriana received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Speech Pathology, specializing in “Voice Pathologies” and “ Psychomotricity ” (Body work Therapy). This resulted in a thesis presented to academic community in Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. After seven years experience as Speech Pathologist at her private practice and at a public school in Brazil, Adriana developed strong beliefs regarding the importance of having the patient involved in the healing process. She learned that this involvement would allow the patient to experience and be in contact with their feelings. This would allow a better awareness of their problems tremendously improving the quality and the dynamic of the therapy. Adriana’s belief and passion for the holistic approach to healing, led her to the study of Zen Shiatsu after her arrival in the United States, in 1994.
Adriana is married to a Brazilian Cardiologist and has a daughter aged 16 years. She loves to volunteer as a Mentor for the Austin Partners of Education (APIE). Her favorite hobby is to dance and work with ceramic.
